Customer Story: Project Turnaround

Opportunity

A renowned hospital system sought to digitize pharmacy education for transplant patients & families. The client partnered with a startup focusing on the health care sector, to build out educational content on an iPad app platform. Driven by the client’s original aggressive timeline and initial organizational skepticism stemming from a recent history of less than successful project execution, the project wasn’t delivering to plan. Loft9 set its sights on addressing the matrixed organizational challenges that were preventing clinicians from effectively prioritizing project work. In order to successfully produce a patient ready iPad application, Loft9 devised a plan to utilize agile project management delivery mechanisms to achieve the delivery goals.

Approach

To help realign the stakeholders, Loft9 developed a strategy to ensure the goals and objectives were quickly and accurately met. The agile method of project management produced a viable product at the end of each sprint. Incrementing the app in two week sprints over the course of three months, the project team was able to maintain momentum and respond quickly to feedback as well as any potential issues. Loft9 provided a rapid assessment to decompose key work streams which enabled the quick development of a work breakdown structure that clarified roles and responsibilities. Project timelines and plans were quickly socialized with the project team and stakeholders were able to to gain consensus and increase buy-in resulting in a high-performing project team. Leveraging an agile framework, managing user-centered design inputs, creating video, screencast and photo content all allowed the broader team an iterative view to the product development and successful delivery.

Success

Loft9 successfully delivered  a patient-ready iPad app experience well within the bounds of the client’s aggressive timeline. In incorporating patient-family feedback, achieving A3-level goals of standardizing and digitizing pharmacy curriculum and successfully transitioning to the client team for run-state, Loft9 delivered a project turnaround with an elevated outcome to our client and set a great project example for the broader stakeholder group. The client was now able to provide a patient ready iPad application, on time, that digitized primary education material for transplant patients and their families. With less focus on primary education, staff could now assess and solve critical issues as they developed and most importantly provide a higher level of service to patients.
